Star Pop

Free SameGame-style puzzle in your browser: tap a group of touching same-colour stars to preview the points, tap again to pop. Big groups score quadratically, a clean board earns a bonus, and a missed target never sends you back to level 1.

🕹️ How to play

  1. Tap a group to preview it: The page opens on a dealt 10×10 board. Tap any star that touches at least one star of the same colour (up, down, left or right). The whole group lifts and the info line shows its size and points, e.g. "6 stars · +180".
  2. Tap again to pop: Tap any star in the same group again and it pops. Stars above fall down and empty columns slide left. Tapping another group re-selects; tapping a lone star or empty space cancels. Settings has a one-tap pop mode.
  3. Play until no pairs are left: When no two touching stars share a colour the board settles: leftover stars fly away and the card shows popped points + bonus = total, compared with the level target.
  4. Next level or replay the board: Clear the target and move on; level 4 adds a fifth colour. Miss it and you stay on the same level: replay the exact same board, deal a new one, or undo a move if you still have undos.

📖 Rules & variants

Groups: stars connect only up, down, left and right – diagonals do not count. A group needs at least 2 stars to pop.

Points: popping n stars scores 5×n². Two stars give 20, five give 125, ten give 500, twenty give 2000, so one big group beats many small ones.

End bonus: with r ≤ 9 stars left you earn 2000 − 20×r². A full clear is worth 2000, nine left only 380, ten or more nothing.

Gravity and collapse: after a pop every column keeps its order and falls to the bottom; empty columns are removed and the columns on the right shift left. No new stars ever drop in.

Passing: total = popped points + end bonus; reach the level target to pass. Each level's target stands alone. Levels 1–3 use four colours, level 4 onwards five.

Undo: three undos per board, restoring the previous board and score. No undo after passing. A result with zero undos is also kept as your no-undo best.

Missing the target keeps you on the same level – replay the same board to try a better order, or deal a new one. Progress and best scores stay in this browser only.

❓ FAQ

How is SameGame scored?
In SameGame each pop of n stars scores 5×n², so larger groups are worth far more: 2 stars = 20, 5 = 125, 10 = 500, 20 = 2000. At the end, an extra bonus is added based on how few stars remain.
How many stars can be left for a bonus in PopStar-style games?
You get a bonus only with 9 or fewer stars left: 2000 − 20 × (stars left)². A full clear gives 2000, one star left 1980, five left 1500, nine left 380, and ten or more gives no bonus at all.
What is the best SameGame strategy?
The best SameGame strategy is to grow big same-colour groups before popping them, because points grow with the square of the group size. Remove small blockers that separate large patches, avoid popping pairs early, and count the leftovers near the end.
Does the order of moves matter in SameGame?
Yes – the same SameGame board can score hundreds of points more or less depending on the order you pop groups. Even a 12-star example scores 2240 with a full clear or 2185 with one star left. Use "Replay this board" to practise a better order.
What is the difference between SameGame and Clickomania?
SameGame and Clickomania are the same tile-collapse puzzle under different names: pop connected same-colour blocks, blocks fall, empty columns close up. This version uses the classic 5×n² scoring with an end-of-board clear bonus.
