How to play Riddle Flip: The first riddle is on screen the moment the page loads - no sign-up, no difficulty menu. Read it, give yourself three seconds, then tap the big Reveal button to flip the card. The back shows the answer and, underneath it, one line explaining why that answer works. Tap 'Got it' or 'Missed it' and the next riddle turns up. A round is ten riddles; the header keeps showing which one you are on and how many you have got.
How the score works: Riddle answers are puns and phrases, so any text matcher would mark a right answer wrong. You score yourself instead: 'Got it' is one point, 'Missed it' is none. From the third riddle on there is also 'Skip', which scores nothing but is tracked with its own icon, so the review list at the end tells you exactly where the points went. Ten points is a perfect round.
How to run riddles at a party: Switch the header to Party and pick two to six seats. One person holds the phone with the screen facing them and reads the riddle out loud - the answer is hidden from the host too until they tap Reveal, so nobody gets spoiled. After reading the answer out, tap whoever got it, or 'Nobody got it', and the next riddle comes up. Ten riddles later you get a seat ranking with ties handled properly. An optional 30-second timer never reveals the answer by itself.
What to do when a riddle beats you: Looking at the answer is the main action here, not cheating - it is free and always one tap away. The value is the line underneath it. Riddles run on three tricks: a literal meaning swapped for a figurative one, a word replaced by one that sounds like it, and a question that is quietly about something other than what you assumed. When you are stuck, ask yourself whether the riddle is playing with words. The next riddle is always reachable; nothing is locked behind a correct answer.

📖 Rules & variants

Full rules: the bank holds 60 original riddles sorted into logic, wordplay, everyday life and funny, each tagged easy, medium or hard. A round is always ten riddles and the difficulty order is fixed - three easy, four medium, three hard - with randomness only inside each difficulty bucket, so the run never spikes on riddle two. The very first riddle is always an easy one so your first self-assessment is a win.

Why every riddle carries an explanation: this genre is allowed to be unfair, and an answer handed over with no reasoning is what makes people close the tab. Every riddle here ships with one written line saying why the answer holds. Riddles with more than one defensible answer, or whose logic falls apart once explained, simply do not make it into the bank.

Scoring and ranks: ten points maximum, one per riddle you say you got. Skips and misses both score zero. There is no time bonus, no combo multiplier and no hidden points - you must be able to count your score off the review list line by line. 0-3 is a warm-up, 4-6 is a pass, 7-8 is sharp, 9-10 is riddle royalty. Your best score and rounds played are kept on this device only.

Party mode: pick two to six seats, hand the phone to whoever is reading. They read the riddle aloud, the room shouts answers, then they tap Reveal, read out the answer and the explanation, and tap the seat that got it or 'Nobody got it'. After ten riddles the seats are ranked, with equal scores sharing a place and the next place skipping a number. If nobody scored at all, no champion is declared. The 30-second timer is off by default and only ever announces that time is up.

Repeat protection: all ten riddles are drawn when the round starts, and no two of them share an answer. Riddles you have already been served are remembered and skipped for several rounds afterwards, so back-to-back sessions stay fresh. You can wipe that history from the result screen at any time, and the page warns you when the bank is running low instead of quietly repeating itself.

Difficulty and the daily riddle: the result screen offers mixed (default), easy only and hard only. Picking one starts a new round immediately and is remembered on this device. Easy only is the setting to use with children - one layer of misdirection and everyday knowledge. There is also a daily riddle: the same one worldwide, worked out from the date with no server call, and finishing it on consecutive days builds a streak.

House rules worth trying (kept as rules, not features): rotate the host every two riddles; ban whoever shouted a wrong answer from the next one; play the easy bank with children and allow one spoken hint; or treat two seats as two teams, so anyone on a team scoring puts the point on that seat.

What is the difference between a riddle and a brain teaser?

A brain teaser can be reasoned out; a riddle often refuses to be. Brain teasers give you a solvable chain of clues, while riddles lean on reversals, puns and double meanings that jump outside the literal question. That is exactly why every riddle here ships with one line of explanation - it puts the missing step back, and any riddle that cannot be explained never enters the bank.

Why do riddle answers feel like a cheat?

Because the genre allows the answer to bend the question rather than follow it. That is the game, not a mistake. What genuinely annoys people is being handed a one-word answer with no reasoning behind it. Here each answer is followed by a written reason, and riddles with a second defensible answer are left out rather than argued over.

What are some good riddles for kids?

Choose 'Easy only' and the whole round becomes one-layer riddles built on everyday knowledge. They need no vocabulary tricks and no ear for puns, so most children land them within a few seconds, and the explanation under each answer is written plainly enough for a parent to read straight out. The entire bank is all-ages with nothing about alcohol, bodies or anybody's background.

How do you keep score with riddles at a party?
