Fruit Slice
Swipe-to-slice fruit game for the browser: built for a phone held upright, combos for multi-cuts, bombs that warn you before they fly
🕹️ How to play
- How to start: Swipe quickly across the watermelon in the middle of the stage (hold the left mouse button on a computer). It splits and the run begins. You can also tap Start or press Enter. Pick Classic or Zen in the top-left corner first.
- How to slice: Fruit is thrown up from below. Swipe fast through it, ideally at the top of its arc where it moves slowest, for 10 points each. Tapping, holding still or dragging slowly never cuts, and the blade trail turns into a thin grey line to tell you it was too slow.
- How combos work: Cut 3 or more fruit in one stroke for a combo worth an extra 10 points per fruit: a 3-fruit combo adds 30, a 4-fruit combo adds 40. The third wave of every run lines three fruit up at the same height so one sweep earns your first combo.
- How to avoid bombs: Bombs are black spheres with a red glow and a lit fuse. 0.4 seconds before one launches, a red half-circle pulses at the bottom edge where it will appear. Lift your finger or swipe around it; a finger resting on a bomb never sets it off, only a fast swipe does.
📖 Rules & variants
Classic mode rules: fruit you fail to cut falls out of the bottom edge and leaves a red X where it dropped. Three misses end the run, and so does slicing a bomb. Every time your score crosses a multiple of 1,000, one X is cleared if you have any; with no X on the board that chance is lost, not banked.
Scoring: watermelon, orange, apple, peach, kiwi and grape are all worth 10 points regardless of size. Star fruit is worth 50 and flies faster and higher. Three or more cuts in one stroke form a combo, settled when you lift your finger or after 0.3 seconds without another cut, worth an extra 10 points per fruit. Two fingers swiping at once are scored separately and never merge into one combo.
Hit detection follows the line you draw, not just the points your finger touched: a fast swipe from one side of a fruit to the other cuts it even if no sample landed on it. A fruit's hit circle is slightly larger than its picture, a bomb's slightly smaller, so grazing fruit counts and grazing a bomb does not.
Bomb rules: there are no bombs in the first 20 seconds. The first one arrives alone at 20 seconds so you only have to learn one thing, going around it. Every bomb after that is announced 0.4 seconds ahead, and bombs never fly tight against fruit: they always keep a gap from everything else in the air, so an unavoidable bomb never appears.
Difficulty: the first 6 seconds are three fixed waves of 1, 2 and 3 fruit. After that the gap between waves shrinks from 1.5 to 0.95 seconds, waves grow from 1–2 to 3–5 fruit, alternating left-right volleys appear after 45 seconds, and speed tops out at 2:30. At most 12 objects are ever in the air.
Zen mode: a 60-second run with no bombs and no penalty for missed fruit, just your score when the clock hits zero; star fruit starts appearing at 15 seconds. It is the relaxed way to warm up and a good pick for kids. Classic and Zen keep separate best scores.
High-score tips: wait for fruit to reach the top of its arc, where it is slowest; sweep sideways when several fruit line up; get ahead of star fruit by waiting above its path; when the red warning pulses, lift your finger and let the bomb rise before cutting the fruit next to it.
Worked example, a 620-point run: 38 single cuts make 380, one 3-fruit combo (30 + 30 bonus) makes 60, one 4-fruit combo (40 + 40 bonus) makes 80 and two star fruit cut on their own make 100, for 620 in total. Three misses later the result card shows 47 sliced and a best combo of 4.
