🕹️ How to play

  1. How to play the flag quiz: Look at the flag and tap the country it belongs to. 1) Hit Start · 60 seconds; 2) after the 3-2-1 countdown, pick from four country names — on a keyboard, keys 1–4 work too; 3) when the clock hits zero you get your score and the flags you missed, and Play again starts the next round. Prefer no timer? Practice gives you 10 flags and waits on every miss until you tap Next.
  2. How scoring works: In the timed round each correct flag is worth 100 points. From the third correct answer in a row, every further correct answer adds a 50-point streak bonus. A miss costs nothing but resets the streak. Your final score is the base score times the level multiplier (Easy ×1, Normal ×1.2, Hard ×1.5), rounded. After a correct answer the next flag appears in 0.35 s, after a miss in 1.2 s — and the clock keeps running during that pause.
  3. Scoring example: On Easy you answer right, right, right, wrong, right, right, right, and time runs out before you tap flag 8. Your streak goes 1, 2, 3, 0, 1, 2, 3, so flags 3 and 7 earn the bonus: 6×100 + 2×50 = 700 points. The same run is worth 840 on Normal and 1050 on Hard. Accuracy is 6/7, shown as 86%; the untouched last flag counts neither way.
  4. Tips to get better at flags: Read the layout before the colours: horizontal stripes, vertical bands, a cross, a triangle at the hoist or a symbol in the corner rules out half the choices at a glance. Then check the order — red over white or white over red, green at the pole or orange at the pole. For look-alikes, one difference is enough to remember. Drilling your weakest continent beats random world rounds.

📖 Rules & variants

Two ways to play: the timed challenge gives you 60 seconds to name as many flags as you can and keeps your best score; Practice is 10 flags with no timer and no score, just correct answers, accuracy and time. Once you have missed flags, a third button appears — Review misses — which starts with the flags you got wrong most often, up to 10 at a time.

Regions and levels: play the whole world or one continent — Asia, Europe, Africa, North America (including Central America and the Caribbean), South America or Oceania — at Easy, Normal or Hard. Easy uses well-known flags and picks wrong answers that look nothing alike; Normal widens the pool and picks wrong answers at random; Hard uses all 193 flags and deliberately puts look-alikes side by side. Small regions automatically borrow the next tier of flags so a round never runs dry.

What's included: the current national flags of the 193 UN member states — Africa 54, Asia 47, Europe 43, North America 23, South America 12, Oceania 14. Russia counts as Europe; Türkiye, Cyprus, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan count as Asia; Egypt counts as Africa. Territories, historical flags and organisation flags are not included. The list and designs were checked on 2026-10-20, including recent changes such as Syria's new flag adopted in December 2024.

No repeats: within one region-and-level combination, a flag won't come back until every flag in that set has been shown once, and this carries across rounds. The result screen tells you how much of the set you've covered. A new cycle avoids the last three flags of the previous one.

Missed flags come back: every miss goes into a mistake list on this device. In normal rounds, questions 5, 10, 15 and so on are swapped for a flag from that list when one belongs to the current region, marked Retry. Get the same flag right twice in a row and it counts as mastered and leaves the list. The list holds up to 60 flags; the oldest drops off first.

Look-alike flags: Chad and Romania, Indonesia and Monaco, and the Netherlands and Luxembourg differ only by a shade or an aspect ratio that vanishes in a 4:3 frame, so each pair is never offered together. Other look-alike groups — the Nordic crosses, the pan-Arab tricolours, Australia and New Zealand — do show up together on Hard, and if you mix them up the result screen puts both flags side by side with one line on how to tell them apart.

Pausing: switching tabs, locking the phone or pressing Pause stops the clock at once and hides the flag and answers, so you can't look anything up; Resume picks up with the same time left. Leaving or reloading during a timed round voids it; Practice reloads onto the same flag with the same answer order. The clock also waits while a flag image is still loading, so a slow connection never costs you time.

Playing with friends: everyone plays one timed round on the same region and level, screenshot the result, highest score wins and the longest streak breaks a tie. The quiz itself is single-player — no accounts and no online matches, just pass the phone.

❓ FAQ

How many flags are in the flag quiz?
193 — the current national flags of every UN member state. By continent that's Africa 54, Asia 47, Europe 43, North America 23, South America 12 and Oceania 14. Territories, historical flags and organisation flags are left out. The list and designs were last checked on 2026-10-20.
What is the difference between the flags of Chad and Romania?
Only the shade of blue: Chad's is darker, Romania's is brighter, and the proportions are almost the same. Side by side they are nearly impossible to tell apart, which is why this quiz never offers both as choices on one question. Their neighbours Andorra and Moldova are easier — both carry a crest on the yellow band.
Which flags look alike and how do you tell them apart?
Learn one difference per pair. Indonesia is red over white, Poland is white over red; Ireland has green at the pole, Côte d'Ivoire has orange; among the Nordic crosses, Denmark is white on red and Sweden is yellow on blue; Australia's stars are white, New Zealand has four red ones.
How can I practise only European or Asian flags?
Pick Europe or Asia under Region on the start screen — the choice is remembered. Practice mode gives you 10 flags with no timer and waits on every miss. Flags in a region don't repeat until the whole set has been shown, so a few rounds cover every flag on that continent.
What is the best way to learn world flags?
Sort by layout first, then colour order — stripes, bands, crosses, hoist triangles and corner symbols each form a family, so you rule out half the choices instantly. Then let the mistake list do the drilling: every flag you miss comes back from question 5 onward until you get it right twice in a row.
What does the new flag of Syria look like?
Syria's current flag has green, white and black horizontal stripes with three red stars on the white band, in use since December 2024. It replaced the red-white-black flag with two green stars, and this quiz uses the new design.
