🕹️ How to play

  1. How to flip a coin here: Tap the coin in the middle of the screen, tap the big FLIP button, or press Space. The coin lifts, spins, slows down and lands on heads or tails.
  2. How to make the flip last longer: Hold the coin or the FLIP button instead of tapping. A ring fills around the coin while you hold, and the longer you hold the longer the spin runs when you let go. A quick tap is a fast 0.7 second flip, and Settings has a skip-the-animation switch if you want it instant.
  3. How to play best 2 out of 3: Switch to the Best of tab and pick 3, 5 or 7. Flip one round at a time; the first side to win more than half the rounds takes the match straight away, so the remaining rounds are never flipped. Odd lengths mean a draw is impossible.
  4. How to play call it (heads or tails): Switch to the Call it tab, press Call Heads or Call Tails, and the coin flips itself. A tick or a cross is stamped on that slot the moment it lands. A round is always ten calls and a wrong call never ends it early.
  5. How to rename heads and tails: Open the gear in the top right and type your own two words, up to eight characters each, or tap a ready-made pair such as Yes/No or My treat/Split it. The new words apply immediately and do not restart the round you are in.

📖 Rules & variants

Which side is heads: real coins disagree about this, so this page settles it — the face struck with H is heads, the other one is tails. The coin art is an invented design and does not copy any real currency. Renaming the sides only changes the words on screen; the physical face stays the same.

When the result is decided: the face is produced in your own browser the instant you flip, and it is written to your local record before the animation even starts. Refreshing the page, backgrounding the tab or turning the animation off cannot change a flip that already happened — you cannot reload your way to a nicer answer. Every flip is 50/50, nothing is sent to a server, and there is no probability slider anywhere on the page.

Three modes: Flip is the default, one throw at a time, and can be switched to 10 or 100 flips at once to see the split and the longest run in that batch. Best of gives you 3, 5 or 7 rounds and stops the moment one side reaches (N+1)/2 wins — 2-0 in a best of three ends it there. Call it is a fixed ten calls where you predict before every throw and get your score, your longest run of correct calls and the real odds at the end. Every flip from every mode feeds the same running tally.

Tally and streaks: the stat line always shows Heads X : Tails Y and the total. A streak counter is added only once the same side has landed at least twice in a row. Streaks carry across modes, across refreshes and across days — only Clear my data in Settings resets them. Longest streak ever, total flips and best call score are the only three things this game asks you to beat.

How common a streak really is: starting from any flip, three of the same side in a row happens 1 time in 4, four in a row 1 in 8, five 1 in 16, six 1 in 32 and eight 1 in 128. Over 100 flips a run of five or six is close to routine, and it says nothing about the coin. Past results never move the next one — it is still 50/50.

House rules and variants: say out loud what each side means before you flip, not after. For a two-person call, one phone held up is enough — there is no hidden information, so nothing needs passing around. The old rule of flipping all three rounds and taking whichever side shows up twice gives exactly the same winner as stopping at 2-0, which is why this page saves you the flip. If someone wants a rematch, agree on the number of rounds first, or you will keep flipping until one of you is happy. In a classroom, run three batches of 100 and let people watch the split walk back toward 50%.

There is no technique: 50/50 cannot be trained, so any trick that claims to raise your hit rate is the gambler's fallacy, and this page will never tell you that your intuition beat some invented percentage of players. Three things do help: define the sides before you flip, agree the match length before you start, and pay attention to your own first reaction when it lands — that usually carries more information than the coin.

❓ FAQ

Is an online coin flip really random?
Every flip here is 50/50 and is generated in your own browser the moment you tap, with nothing sent to a server and no setting that can bias it. If you want to check it yourself, use the 100-flip batch a few times and watch the split move toward 50%.
Which side of a coin is heads?
There is no universal answer — real coins define their two sides differently. On this page the face struck with H is heads and the other one is tails. You can rename both sides to Yes/No or anything else; that changes the words, not the face.
I got 5 heads in a row — is the coin flip rigged?
No. Five of the same side in a row happens about 1 time in 16 from any starting point, so over 100 flips it is close to routine. A coin has no memory, and the next flip is still 50/50 no matter how long the run was.
How do you play best 2 out of 3 with a coin toss?
Agree the number of rounds first — this page offers 3, 5 or 7 — and the first side to win more than half of them takes the match. In a best of three, going 2-0 ends it immediately, and because the lengths are odd a draw cannot happen.
Is flipping a coin a good way to make a decision?
A coin has no idea which option is better; what it does is force you to notice your own first reaction the second it lands. Say what each side means before you flip, and if you instantly want to redo it, that reaction is the real answer.
How do you flip a coin without a coin?
Open this page and tap the coin on screen — no app, no account and no real coin needed. For a two-person call, hold the phone up so you both watch the same landing; there is nothing secret to hide, so the phone never has to be passed.
What happens if you flip a coin 100 times?
You usually land somewhere near 50/50 but rarely exactly on it, and you almost always see at least one run of five or six of the same side. Switch the Flip mode to 100 and the page shows both numbers, the percentages and the longest run in that batch against a 50% line.
How many heads or tails calls out of 10 is good?
Five is the expected score, so anything from four to six is completely ordinary. Getting nine or more happens about 1.1% of the time and all ten about 0.1% — but that is luck, because calling a coin is not a skill you can practise.

⚠️ Results on this page are generated at random in your browser and are meant for entertainment and everyday decisions, not for gambling of any kind. The coin design is original and does not represent any real currency. Records are kept only on your own device.
