A two-stage wheel that cuts 60 choices down to one in ten seconds

🕹️ How to play

  1. Pick a mood (or skip it): The chip row starts on 'Anything works' with all 60 dishes on the wheel. Short on time? Tap 'Need it in 10 min'. Midnight craving? 'Late-night hungry'. Payday still far away? 'Broke this month'. The wheel reloads with just those dishes.
  2. Tap the hub to spin: Tap the big hub button (or anywhere on the wheel; space bar works on desktop). The wheel lands on a food type first - rice bowls, noodles, soup, grab-and-go, big table or somewhere else - then flips to that type's dishes and spins again for the exact one.
  3. Take it, or swap within the type: Three buttons on the result card: 'Take it' locks the decision in, 'Swap within type' re-spins inside the same food type, 'Spin again' starts over from the type wheel. Whatever you just spun turns grey with a strikethrough - still on the wheel, same slice count, never picked again this round.

📖 Rules & variants

Two-stage narrowing: the first wheel has one slice per food type and turns 60 choices into 6; the second has one slice per dish in that type. Both are equal-size slices with equal odds, and the announced answer is always the slice under the pointer. Because it is 'equal odds per type, then equal odds inside the type', a dish sitting in a small type is more likely to come up than one in a crowded type - that is the price of narrowing, not a hidden weight. Want flat odds across all dishes? Switch to single-stage mode in settings.

Round elimination: every dish you spin (whether or not you accept it) goes grey with a strikethrough and stays on the wheel - the slice count never changes. Keep spinning and you will work through the whole pool (60 dishes on the default mood) before the 'round is empty' screen appears, and 'Put them all back' restores it. Crossing midnight starts a fresh round on its own.

Cool-down: a dish you tapped 'Take it' on fades for the next 3 days and its weight drops to 0.3 of a normal dish (roughly a third to a quarter of the odds, depending on the pool). It is damped, not banned. A legend under the wheel spells out 'grey = spun this round, faded = eaten recently', and settings can switch the cool-down off entirely.

Your own list: open 'Edit list' and type one dish or restaurant name per line - it saves as you type, no save button, up to 100 lines of 30 characters. Write the same name twice and it gets two slices and double the odds (the page tells you so rather than silently de-duplicating). A custom list has no food types, so it spins single-stage, and the cool-down only applies to the 60 built-in dishes.

Eating together: prop one phone in the middle of the table and everyone watches the same landing. If the table cannot agree, open table mode: 2-6 people pass the phone around, each nominating one dish, then one spin settles it. The result card names whose pick won and adds a table rule so the people who lost get something back, e.g. 'whoever was not picked orders the drinks'. Table mode never touches your personal round or cool-down record.

Tips: write a dish twice in your own list to double its odds; with a group, narrow with a mood chip before spinning so the landing feels plausible; and in table mode say 'one spin, we eat whatever it lands on' out loud before spinning - that sentence does more for group buy-in than the wheel does.

FAQ

Is this food wheel actually random, or is it rigged?
It is random, and the wheel itself is the proof: every slice is the same size, the announced dish is always the one under the pointer, and nothing is re-weighted behind your back. Dishes you already spun stay on the wheel in grey, dishes you ate recently are faded - both damped states are drawn on the face, so there are no invisible weights. One caveat: two-stage mode picks a type first, then a dish inside it, so dishes in a smaller type come up more often. Switch to single-stage in settings for flat odds.
What if I don't like what it landed on - can I spin again?
Yes. The result card has two re-spin buttons: 'Swap within type' stays inside the type you just landed on (soup stays soup, it just picks a different bowl), and 'Spin again' restarts from the type wheel. Either way the dish you just saw goes grey and will not come back this round. If you are deciding for a group, agree on one spin up front - endless re-spins defeat the point of letting the wheel take the blame.
Can I add my own dishes or restaurants to the wheel?
Yes. Tap 'Edit list' under the wheel and type one name per line - your usual takeout spots, the cafeteria options, anything. It saves as you type, so there is no save button to forget, up to 100 lines of 30 characters each. The list lives in this browser only: it refills next visit, but it does not sync to another phone (there are no accounts). You can copy it out as one line of text and send it to yourself.
How do I stop it repeating dishes I just ate?
Inside one round it cannot repeat: anything spun is removed from the draw immediately and stays greyed on the wheel until the pool runs out. Across days it is damping, not a ban - a dish you accepted in the last 3 days fades and comes up at roughly a third of the normal rate, so it can still appear. Past midnight a fresh round starts and all the grey slices come back.
How do a few people decide where to eat when everyone says 'I don't care'?
Open table mode under the wheel, pick 2-6 people, and pass the phone around: each person nominates one dish (or taps 'I don't care' and lets the wheel fill one in). Those nominations become the wheel, one spin settles it, and the result card says whose pick won plus a table rule that gives the rest something back, like 'everyone who lost adds one side dish'. Nominations are public on purpose - hiding them would defeat the point.
Does it suggest nearby restaurants, and how is it different from a plain spinner wheel?
No. It never asks for your location and does not look up nearby restaurants, delivery fees, ratings or opening hours - it only settles what you are eating; where to get it is your call. Compared to a plain spinner where you type every option yourself and one spin ends it, this one ships with 60 everyday dishes and 8 mood filters, narrows in two stages, and remembers what you already spun today and ate this week.

⚠️ For entertainment only. This page does not request your location, does not look up nearby restaurants, and offers no nutrition or health advice; dish names are generic categories, unrelated to any restaurant brand. Your mood choice, round progress and custom list stay in this browser and are never uploaded.
