Phone between you two, each guard a half, slap your half when it lights up

🕹️ How to play

  1. Put the phone between you two: Lay one phone flat with both players facing each other across it. The screen splits top and bottom: the bottom half is Player 1, the top half is Player 2 (text rotated 180° to face across). Pick single / best of 3 / best of 5 in settings first.
  2. Tap start and watch the countdown: Tap “Start duel” and a shared 3-2-1 countdown shows in the center. Tapping during the countdown is not a false start; when it finishes you enter the hold-still waiting phase automatically.
  3. Hold still and wait for the signal: After the countdown the screen dims and a center dot breathes tight — this is the waiting phase. Whoever can't hold it and slaps now commits a false start and loses instantly. The screen bursts green after a random 1.5–4s.
  4. Signal on — first to slap wins: The instant the green signal fires, both players race to slap their own half; the first slap wins the round and shows the reaction time in ms. Tap “Next round” to keep score; first to win the majority takes the match. To swap, just pass the phone.

📖 Rules & variants

Sides & input: the screen splits along the midline into two big tap zones — bottom is Player 1, top is Player 2 (rotated to face across). Judging is by where you land: a tap on the bottom half scores Player 1, the top half Player 2, regardless of whose finger it is. Near the midline is a dead band (holding the buttons); taps there don't count. Slap your own half.

Round flow: after start a 3-2-1 countdown runs (taps there aren't false starts), then the hold-still wait begins and the center signal fires after a random 1.5–4s. Slapping before the signal is a false start and loses; slapping after it, first wins, and the reaction time is shown.

False start loses: during the wait, the first slap by either side immediately loses that side the round no matter how fast or how many taps — the first out-of-turn slap locks the result and later taps can't undo it. Holding still is the whole game.

Match & scoring: choose single / best of 3 (default) / best of 5; first to win the majority takes the match. The score lives in memory for this match only and resets on swap or reload — no internet, no leaderboard. The device keeps one local fastest-reaction record for atmosphere; it celebrates but never decides a duel.

Fairness: every round re-draws the signal delay randomly within 1.5–4s, so there's no rhythm to memorize and no way to predict the next from the last. The reaction ms is just for bragging and beating your own record, not a scientific test.

FAQ

How do you play Reaction Duel?
Lay one phone flat between two players, split the screen top and bottom with each guarding a half. Tap start, watch the 3-2-1 countdown, then hold still and wait for the signal; the instant the center bursts green, whoever slaps their own half first wins the round and sees the reaction ms. Slapping before the signal is a false start and loses. Play best of 3.
How is a false start judged in Reaction Duel?
Any slap before the signal fires is a false start and instantly loses that side the round. It depends only on whether the signal is on — not how fast you slapped or how many times. Taps during the 3-2-1 countdown are not false starts; the false-start window only opens in the wait-for-it phase.
What game can two people play on one phone?
To test reactions on a shared phone, Reaction Duel is the most direct: split screen, slap when it lights up, seconds per round with an instant winner. To test tapping stamina try Finger Battle (tug tapping); for a slower pace play same-screen gomoku or tic-tac-toe — none need internet or waiting.
What's the difference between Reaction Duel and a reaction time test?
A reaction time test is solo — you measure your own ms and see a rank. Reaction Duel is two people slapping one phone to see who's faster, plus the false-start mind game. Want your own ms? Play a reaction time test. Want to settle it with a friend on the spot? Play Reaction Duel.
How many people can play Reaction Duel?
Exactly two. The screen splits top and bottom, one half per side — built for two people slapping face-to-face on one screen; solo has no opponent and more than two won't fit. For a group, take turns in a knockout: settle each pair with best of 3, then swap in the next.
What 2-player reaction game is good for a party?
For a quick, seconds-per-round 2-player reaction game at a party, Reaction Duel fits: one phone split in two, face to face, slap when it lights up, and the loser takes a small dare (a sip / a performance) to heat things up. Rotate it with Finger Battle and truth or dare — even a queue leaves time for a round.

⚠️ This is a 2-player same-screen duel — you need one phone and two people facing each other; results are for fun only.
